East to Far East: Singapore

Oh, hai! I've been in Singapore.
It's like the Jungle Book mixed with
some Manhattan, mixed with some halal
meat, mixed with some Chinese Duck, mixed
with British Colonialism.

Extras: Medicom 2008 Toy Expo at Parco

Thanks to the nature of the business I work in, our company is always invited to
toy launches, cons, and exhibitions. Tonight I attended the Medicom Toy Exhibition '08 at
Parco 1. This is a preview show for all of the toys Medicom will release this year. This
includes special collaborations with movies, manga, and more.

The highlight was every person in attendance was given a free mystery toy at the door.
Mine was "The Spirit of Yoda" Kubrick. The clear jelly blue makes Yoda seem to glow in
the light.

I was also able to pre-buy the new Lost Kubrick set! Kubrick Jack with Lost Bearbrick!

Good news, they are coming out with a the cast of Lost as Kubrick including; island style jack, Sawyer,
Sayid, Charlie, Hurley, and Kate.

Perhaps the most highly anticipate series for me is the Bearbrick X Carebears series!!!
I don't have any photos but trust me they are amazingly cute! Keep your eye out for those guys.

One last thing, the snackes were all man food.
I had a beer and a donut, while peeping the newest toys.
I honestly never thought that adults could have this much fun
while working.

The exhibition is open to the public from tomorrow.
Map is here:

Ps. they have a 400% golden Indians Jones Bearbrick and 400% all wooden Bearbrick for around $560 usd

Foods: Hattifnatt Cafe, Koenji Tokyo

These are the Moomin, a delightful family of white hippo-bear-dandies.
I have taken to reading these story books because there is one written for
each season. Right now, I am reading "Moomin Papa at Sea".

The Hattifnatt live in Moominland are these long white weird things, that grow in the moonlight.
They come when you feel the electricity of being excited about something.

Which brings us to Hattifnatt cafe, a lovely little place located in Koenji.

The exterior of the cafe resembles a Nordic tree fort, complete with a cubby loft inside!

The steep log stairs lead you up to the lovely hand painted animal
fairytale room. A local Japanese couple painted this mural, with their
distinctive illustrations. It makes the space intimate and cozy.

Perhaps the best thing about the place is it's so close to where my friend
Minah lives. I can dial her to meet up at a moments notice.

The signature dessert is the さくさくのふわふわ ケーキ。
(Sakusaku no FwaFwa cake). Sakusaku is the sensation
of eating asoft, crunchy pastry, FwaFwa is the onomonopiea for a fluffy light
sensation like whipped cream. Anyways, it is sweet, bitter, fluffy, crunchy
and amazing. Look at this satisfied customer:

A trip to Hattifnatt is like a trip back to your childhood tree fort
minus the peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches, with more alcohol
fancy cakes and free wifi!

Long Distance: Love in Tokyo Spring 2008

I've been in an epically long, long distance relationship five years and counting. We are just busy guys I guess, but he made time to come see me in Japan. We've been sharing a domestic domicile for two weeks, wafu style on tatami and slippers.

This is where I have been guys, sorry for the break. It's just so urgent and amazing when we are together again. I'm sure you can understand.

Needless to say, this is just a glimpse into some entries to come*

Today he returned to Baltimore. I will go home tonight after work and will wonder why my room seems larger.

Trips: Izu Penninsula

A year ago a woman I worked with disappeared at the Izu Pennisula while
scuba diving. It is one of the most beautiful and diverse diving spaces in the
world. Two opposing jet streams of cool and warm water mix in the bay
making it an attractive place for a variety of fish. If she had to disappear
I'm glad it was while doing something she loved.

Favorites: MuxTape June 2008

My life has had a serious shortage of amazing music for a while now. For some reason I keep going back to the same Animal Collective and Aphex Twin albums, I just can't crack the "A's" of my i-tunes.

Obsession: NeedlePoint Felting

Needlepoint felting. You take some raw wool, a fish hook type needle, and jab over and over
again until you make a cute animal. Here is my first project, it was made in one weekend while
watching Season 1 of Lost. This is a polar bear.

There is dark lighting here because I work in my closet.
