I have been meaning to get a new keitai for some time now. The one I have been using is practically vintage at this point, I knew I had to make the plunge when one of my friends casually said "oh, my grandma has that keitai!".. ugh! Being a designer by profession, it's time to switch out.

Meet my new BFF*
The Softbank X Snoopy keitai. Totally cute right? There are 8 themes I can choose from for the cover panel and the on screen menu can also be set in the snoopy theme (Japanese only). This is a pretty hi-tech situation here, it has the following features:

*Video chat directly from the phone to another Softbank customer
*use the internet (in Japanese only)
*send video email.
*record up to 20min of video and audio
*locate people in my guest book, if they are close proximity to me (basically, my phone will vibrate if my friends are in within 300 ft of me)
*video blog directly from the headset
*plus much more stuff that I have no idea how to use because it is all in Japanese.

And the coolest thing, the keitai itself is a credit card/train pass. Basically I just set it on this reader thing at shop checkout and the amount is added to my keitai bill. Also, if I am running late, I can just touch it to the train turnstyle and it pays for my train ticket.

Today I am going to try the train pass feature, to see how it works. Hopefully it does work and I don't look crazy.

PS. Here is the official commercial for the Snoopy x Softbank promotion. The music is children singing Aerosmith's "Walk this way"... I thought that song was about sex, no? You will also hear how English speaking songs are cut off so abruptly in Japanese commercials.
